Goldfish Point Cafe offers sandwich delights

Picnics at the Cove wouldn’t be the same to many La Jollans without a stop at the Goldfish Point Cafe to pick up a boxed lunch.

But there’s more to this waterfront cafe than take-outs. The informal eatery opens early for breakfast, and the breakfast menu is interesting and ample.

You can munch on an egg croissant or bagel for a quick start to your day or enjoy a full breakfast, such as the Greek breakfast, which features scrambled eggs, feta cheese, tomatoes and toasted bread. The Greek breakfast costs $7.50, while the bagel and croissant egg combos with ham or bacon and cheese run $6.

Lunch is the main meal at Goldfish Point Cafe, and sandwiches are the main lunchtime offering. You can choose from about a dozen specialty sandwiches, and that doesn’t even count the many panini sandwiches.

You can mix or match a variety of meats and cheeses for your own sandwich design ($6 for a full or $4 for half a sandwich). The cafe sandwiches are served on fresh eight-grain bread, and you can pile on as many condiments as you please in addition to the lettuce, tomatoes, onions and bean sprouts the cafe packs into every sandwich.

The menu doesn’t end with sandwiches. There are several salads on the menu, starting with the Caesar salad ($6) and including a feta cheese salad with walnuts ($6.50).

Wash them down with a specialty coffee or tea, and you’re ready for your day at the beach – or even a day at work. The cafe isn’t very fancy, but it does boast those million-dollar views of the Cove. What else can you ask of a neighborhood eatery?

Goldfish Point Cafe is at 1255 Coast Blvd. Call (858) 459-7407.

Okay, I admit it. I am a huge fan of the Disney movies, TV shows, merchandise and theme parks. One of my favorite places to visit is Cars Land at Disney California Adventure Park, next to Disneyland Park in Anaheim (I have a well-used Premium Annual Passport). If you haven’t been there, you absolutely must go. Highlights are the recreations of Route 66 and C […]
