Half-Marathon run for fun and sport

Thousands of runners and fans gathered Sunday, April 23, for the La Jolla Half Marathon. The competition began at the Del Mar Fairgounds.
David Kloz, 31, won the men’s division with a time of 1 hour, 12 minutes and 36 seconds over the 13.1-mile course, which stretches between Del Mar and La Jolla Cove including the steep climb up Torrey Pines State Reserve. He won by 42 seconds over the rest of the field.
The winner in the women’s competition was Katya Meyers, 25, who ran with a shoulder injury suffered in a bike accident three weeks ago. Her arm had been in a sling for two weeks. She was unable to move her arm on her left side.
Nonetheless, she won by 37 seconds with a time of 1:27:31.
