Golden Hanger Fashion Awards bring out best

Fashion Careers College recently held its 19th Annual Golden Hanger Fashion Awards bash at the Town and Country Hotel. The well-attended event celebrated every facet of the local fashion industry with leading professionals represented in the audience as well as on stage.

The gala featured a spectacular runway show with a special segment focusing on celebrities and children from the Make-A-Wish Foundation of San Diego. All the runway models were decked out in cutting-edge apparel designed and created by students in the fashion design and technology program.
Among the awards presented at the gala was a new distinction – the lifetime achievement award – given to the legendary Vidal Sassoon, an innovator in the fashion and beauty industry. Jewelry designer Tamara Alter and hair design educator Vickie Lavanty were also honored. La Jolla philanthropist Ingrid Hib-ben was acknowledged for donating her valuable textile collection for use in the designs.
La Jollans on hand included Toni and John Bloomberg, Jeanne Jones, Don Breitenberg, Michelle Novak, Joyce and Ed Glazer, and Fred and Ericka Torri.
